Merrill lives in Tallahassee, Florida, where he is an active member of Berean Christian Fellowship.  He is a retired telecommunication engineer.  Merrill was one of the original board members when GEMS was established in 1990 and continues to volunteer in various places including chairing the auction committee.  Merrill participates in the annual Gospel Express North Florida Prison Crusades.  When Merrill is not volunteering, he enjoys gardening, traveling, and hanging out with his grandchildren.  He and his wife, Marie have two sons, Philip, and Edwin, who yielded them eight grandchildren, three of them live in Oklahoma and one resides in Alaska.
