We recognize Jesus Christ as the only means of salvation. We accept him as our personal Savior and Lord, God as our Heavenly Father, and the Holy Spirit as our guide. We accept the Bible as the authoritative Word of God and believe that all scripture if given by direction inspiration of God. We therefore base our faith, life, and eternal future on the Truth of God’s Word.

Missionary chaplains work alongside the state chaplains with the department of corrections and report regularly to the Gospel Express Ministries (GEMS) board of directors. Each applicant is required to fill out an application for the board of directors to review and approve prior to being assigned a position.

The board of directors consists of nine members who are elected for a five year term. Board members must be Christians, be active in a Bible believing church, have an interest in prison ministry, and be willing to volunteer their time and talents to help promote the ministry of GEMS.
